I was hired by Gish Creative to create a logo and invitation for the Happy
Birthday Houston events. From the press release: "We are particularly
proud of our logo which connects Houston’s past, present and future
with its Texas heritage. The logo’s Art Deco style is inspired by
Houston City Hall built in1939 and designed by prominent Houston architect
Joseph Finger. The iconic star image was selected because of Houston’s
historical connection to the Republic of Texas and the Lone Star State.
The 3 stacked stars represent Houston’s generations of yesterday,
today and tomorrow and each is inspired by Art Deco elements found within
City Hall. The top two stars appear on light fixtures and the layered star
image is inspired by the star in Leo Friedlander’s “Untitled”
bas-relief sculpture in City Council Chambers." The luncheon invite was emailed and snail mailed to potential attendees. I was provided with vintage photos and copy. OBJECTIVE: To honor the City of Houston. RESULTS: An art deco logo that represents Houston's past, present and future. |
